Heavy Engineering Research Association
HERA was established in 1978 as a
non-profit research organisation dedicated to the needs of the metals-based industries
in New Zealand. HERA exists as a resource support centre to member companies
to develop their technical competence and so improve industry capability and competitiveness.
Improving technical competence includes improving staff skills of all kinds, improving
technical standards of work and better use and adaptation of technology.
HERA's area of activity is best described as centred on metals engineering and the business of adding value to raw metal material. A history of the first 25 years of HERA was presented to members at the 2nd Metals Industry Conference 2004 in Christchurch.
